Columbus police have detained a young man and an adolescent on murder charges related to the Halloween killing of another adolescent in South Linden.
Dezmond Vaughn-Butler, 17, was shot and killed. Chrissean Houston, 16, and Dante Johnson, 18, both of South Linden, are accused of the shooting deaths. Houston might face charges as an adult from the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office.
Minutes from the suspects’ residence, in the 1600 block of Cleveland Avenue, there was a reported shooting that prompted police to come shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Vaughn-Butler was discovered by police with gunshot wounds.
After being taken to a nearby hospital by Columbus Fire medics in serious condition, Vaughn-Butler passed away on Wednesday at 9:21 p.m.
